Andrew has been commended by clients for his proactive approach and understanding of business strategy. Clients note that he can be “relied upon for both his legal knowledge and technical expertise”. Andrew likes to develop long term relationships with clients and their technical teams to really understand where a business is going and how IP can be used as a tool to complement those drivers and help the business grow.
Andrew has particular experience managing international portfolios particularly in the Medtech, Software, Telecoms and Automotive fields.  His background in the interface between Physics and consumer healthcare means Andrew has a particular interest and expertise in medical device technologies. Andrew’s PhD had a commercial focus, sponsored by a major pharmaceutical company resulting in a number of scientific publications in highly-regarded peer-reviewed journals and Andrew’s attendance at numerous international conferences.
Andrew doesn’t just work with big clients, however, and has an active approach to engaging with London’s burgeoning start-up community. He regularly provides free support and advice to a number of start-up accelerators and incubators in the UK, discussing all aspects of IP including registered designs, agreements and licencing, as well as patents of course.
“We are a small business without in-house IP function. Mathys & Squire have helped us protect our IP and to define our IP in deals with customers. This support has been critical in allowing our business to scale. It has freed our people to focus on their own roles. Licensing our IP has enabled us to scale without making the capital outlay for manufacturing equipment. […] the team have helped us to negotiate an IP licence which we estimate will generate income of several millions of Euro per year. Sean and Andrew stand out for their proactive approach […] they understand our business strategy beyond IP and help us to make the best use of our resources." Â
Stephen Irish, Managing Director – Commercial, Hyperdrive Innovation Limited
