Lianne joined Mathys & Squire in 2015 having worked previously for another top tier private practice firm. She has experience in drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the U.K., Europe and worldwide, and in post-grant opposition and appeal proceedings before the EPO, and handles work in all areas of the life sciences. Lianne has an honours degree in biological sciences from Edinburgh University and a PhD in neuroscience from Bristol University.

Lianne handles work in all areas of the life sciences, and has experience working for a wide range of clients, including universities, spinouts, SMEs and multinational corporate clients. Her current work focuses on prosecution, opposition (both offensive and defensive) and appeal proceedings before the EPO for a number of US-based biotechnology companies, helping to protect their products in clinical development. Prior to joining the profession, Lianne worked for the technology transfer company of one of the UK's top universities, helping to commercialise academic research.Â
Lianne graduated from Edinburgh University with a first class honours degree in biological sciences, specialising in pharmacology. She also spent time in industry developing a novel high throughput drug discovery assay for electrogenic neurotransmitter transporter function.Â She was awarded a PhD in neuroscience from Bristol University for her research into the role of the prostaglandin pathway in the midbrain in regulating somatosensory information processing in collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline.Â Lianne also holds a postgraduate certificate in intellectual property law from Brunel University.
