Tom joined Mathys & Squire in 2016 having worked for one year in another large UK-based firm. He has experience with drafting patent applications, as well as patent prosecution at the EPO, the UKIPO and the USPTO. His main area of expertise is in the field of IT and electronics. In particular, Tom has experience in drafting, and prosecution of, applications for computer software or other fringe excluded subject-matter applications, and how to draft these applications with a view to satisfying excluded subject-matter requirements in the UK, Europe and the US.

Academic

Tom graduated from UCL with a MSci in Theoretical Physics. His course covered a range of different subject areas within maths, physics and engineering. His Masters project focussed on developing computational methods to improve the modelling of molecular energy levels in molecules, so that the composition of exo-planetary atmospheres could be analysed with greater reliability. Other areas covered during his time at university included molecular spectroscopy, classical mechanics and fluid dynamics, stochastic calculus, electromagnetism, lasers and quantum physics.
